Avalanche warning for region Svalbard sør Monday 02.01.2023

Strong wind and snow will lead to an extreme amount of wind transported snow. Avoid all avalanche terrain. Very large naturally triggered avalanches likely.

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a large truck or destroy several houses (size 4).

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a large truck or destroy several houses (size 4). Remote triggering is possible.

Usedvanlig mye nedbør og kraftig vind ventes å føre til ekstremt store mengder fokksnø i leområder. Svært store skred vil kunne løsne av seg selv.

I terreng over ca. 400 moh må vedvarende svake lag i snødekket tas med i betraktning da snøskred kan utløses på avstand.
Skredløp forventes å bli uvanlig lange og det må legges inn ekstra stor sikkerhetsmargin til alt skredterreng.
